It’s natural to get a little bit antsy when you’re on the road, especially for long trips. However, there’s a huge difference between getting a little exasperated with other drivers and experiencing true road rage. Road rage occurs when you go beyond the range of normal emotions into a heightened state of anger on the road. While there are certainly many things that can provoke a driver, it’s always worth pointing out that road rage is a dangerous road on which to travel.
Road rage plays a huge role in how a driver perceives the other cars on the road. He or she is no longer being cautious when driving; instead, anger makes the driver impulsive. This leads the driver to take chances that he or she would not otherwise take and places the driver and others in danger. Instead of attempting to get to his or her destination in one piece, the driver’s emotions take over. This makes the road more dangerous for everyone.
In some ways, the drivers who are merely reckless are the less dangerous drivers on the road. There are others who experience road rage that choose to turn their vehicles into weapons. Instead of focusing on safe driving, these drivers decide that it is their duty to ‘punish’ the offending drivers. These individuals can cause accidents through their actions and have, in some cases, even been responsible for purposefully causing harm to others.
